July 12, 1933 - September 3, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear Dad, Jack, on September 3rd 2020 at Abbotsford, BC.
Jack was born in 1933 in Liverpool, England - a city that witnessed some of the worst devastation seen in Britain during WWII. His experiences as a young lad both during and post war could be recounted with astounding detail right up until the end of his life. At the age of 18 he began 2 years of conscripted service in the British army and, upon his return from Germany, he joined the Liverpool City Police where he served until immigrating to Canada in 1964. Upon Dad's arrival in Canada, he worked as a guard at the BC Penitentiary situated along the Fraser River in New Westminster until joining the Matsqui Police Department (now Abbotsford Police Department) in 1970. Dad was a well-respected member of the force for over 22 years. He proudly served this community until his retirement in 1992.
Dad was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Sheila, and is survived by their loving family, children, Carol Reid (Robert), Lesley Green and John (Jacqueline), and grandchildren, Megan Horvat (Riel), Liam Reid, Samantha Green, Fiona Green and Mackenzie Gustafson.
A Funeral Mass was held at St. Ann's Catholic Church on September 11, 2020. An Abbotsford Police Department honour guard acknowledged Dad's life of service and Colin Thomson beautifully played the pipes. Thanks to all others who attended and remembered Dad through gifts of flowers, words of support and shared stories. A fond thank you to the staff of Menno Terrace East and their kind support of Dad and his family.
Rest in peace Dad, you are dearly loved and will be missed.
