November 7, 1937 - July 12, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce John passed away at the age of 86 with family by his side at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
John was born in Chilliwack, BC where he grew up playing soccer and working on the family farm. His love of agriculture flourished as a member of the 4-H Club, and he worked his way up to President of the Canadian 4H Club and Livestock Barn Superintendent at the PNE. On May 26,1961 John married his high school sweetheart Evelyn Fraser right after her graduation from nursing school.
In 1964 John graduated with a Degree in Agrology from the University of British Columbia. He began working for the Farm Credit Corporation in Fort St John where his children Patti (1964) and Doug (1965) were born. The job then transferred him to Duncan (1967) and then Abbotsford (1970). John began his own Agricultural Consulting firm in the early 1970's and was involved in several small business ventures until 2016 when he retired.
John valued family and was very involved in his children's lives, always willing to be a coach, manager, or to fill whatever role was needed. His passion for sports lived on with his grandchildren, and you could always spot him in the stands or on the sidelines. John was very close with his brother David and sister-in-law Joanne, traveling to Florida often for extended visits. His cousin Jim was his fishing buddy, and many hours were spent telling tall tales and reliving them later over many phone calls.
Community minded, John worked with the Rotary club for most of his adult life, supporting community service in Canada and traveling to the Philippines twice as part of the SMILE program. He received several "Paul Harris Awards" for service in the Abbotsford Rotary club. From the time he was 18 years old John was a Freemason and became a member of the Abbotsford Masonic Lodge. John was also elected as a Board Member of the Abbotsford Centre for Epilepsy for several years, and served on his Strata Council for many years.
John remained in his townhouse in Abbotsford until just a few months before his passing. He was well taken care of by family and his devoted homecare aide Ashley Hamilton. John was pre-deceased by his parents, Dorothy (1995) and William (2003) McFaul, and by his beloved Evelyn (2013). He is survived by his children, Patti (Rob) and Doug (Diane), brother David (Joanne) and cherished grandchildren, Sydney, Tori, Sean, and Ryan.
John's family will be honoring his life in an intimate private manner; we invite everyone who loved him and knew him to celebrate John's life in a meaningful way of your own.
