John “Jack” Fadden Hunter, late of Abbotsford passed away peacefully on June 5, 2005 at the age of 87 surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born in Reno, Nevada on November 15, 1917 to Marjorie and John T. Hunter.

He was raised on the family dairy farm at Upper Sumas. He served in the American Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky, where he met his future bride, Ruth Evans. He then served in Northern Africa for 18 months and returned in 1946 when he and Ruth were married. Jack and Ruth returned to Canada with their daughter and son in 1954 to run the family farm. They retired to Abbotsford in 1968 and then spent many happy years traveling, enjoying square dancing, and many other activities. He was a member of the Abbotsford Flying Club, Hole in the Wall, Sumas Parks Board, and a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was predeceased by his daughter Nancy in 2001. Jack is survived by Ruth his devoted wife of over 60 years, son Gary (Christine); grandchildren Michael and Katie; son-in-law Brian Harms; granddaughters Jennifer (Chris) and Stephanie (fiancé James) and great-granddaughter Julia Nancy. He will also be remembered lovingly by sister Eva (Dale) Borne and many other relatives and friends locally and in Kentucky.

In celebration of Jack’s life a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 15 at 1:30 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3845 Gladwin Road, Abbotsford with Pastor David Hilderman officiating.

Donations may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation in memory of Jack and his daughter Nancy.
