John passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, February 13, 2010 in Abbotsford hospital. He is predeceased by Louise, his wife of more than 60 years, his brothers Abe Enns and Henry Warkentin, his sister Mary Reimer, and his daughter Louise Enns. He leaves to mourn his children John (Mary Lou) of Jacksonville, Florida, Viola Connolly of Abbotsford, Vangie (Harold) Esau of Abbotsford, Jim (Janet) of Delta, Marianne (Michael) Crowe of Victoria, and Helen Enns of Abbotsford, and also his brother Jake Warkentin, and his sister Hilda Krause. He leaves eight (11) grandchildren and seven (7) great-grandchildren.
After teaching in Manitoba for 7 years, John moved the family to Abbotsford, BC in 1959. He taught school, first at MEI in Clearbrook, BC, and then at several different schools in Surrey, BC. In 1963, John was ordained as a minister, serving in the Clearbrook MB church for many years – both as a preacher and as a moderator. In 1964 John purchased a raspberry farm which was sold in 1986. After his wife passed away in 2006 he moved into the Tabor Court in Clearbrook.
Viewing will take place at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, on March 1, from 7:30 – 9:00 pm. Memorial service will take place on March 2, 2010 at 11 am at the Clearbrook MB Church, 2719 Clearbrook Rd, Abbotsford, preceded by the interment at Maclure Road Mennonite Cemetery at 9:30 am.
