BOYLE John M. "Jack". 1931 ~ 2013

Jack passed away about 6:00 am on September 1, 2013. He was diagnosed just two weeks earlier with liver cancer. He is pre-deceased by his brother Bill and sisters Janie and Eleanor (Pogie). He is survived by his partner of 49 years Jim Lorenzen, his brother Jim and wife Di as well as numerous nieces and nephews. It seems from this early photo his aspiration was to be a cowboy, perhaps because his grandfather was the first U.S. Marshall in the Oregon Territory. By his expression it did not last long and at age 13 he took up skating. He became a principal skater in the Ice Follies and "Holiday on Ice" and was said to get the Khrushchev salary when he was invited to skate at the American base in Garmish, Germany. Jack spent two years in the American Airforce and thereafter became a pro and taught in various places in the States before moving to Vancouver where he taught figure skating for many years at the Forum. In 1969 he and Jim began to raise Arabian horses and had many champions over the next 34 years as "Black Tent Arabians". There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday September 21, 2013 from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Jack and Jim's home 32069 Trembath Ave., Mission, BC. Bring your memories.
