Dr. Joginder Singh Grewal

August 18, 1945 ~ June 28, 2008

After a valiant battle with cancer, Dr. Joginder Singh Grewal passed away peacefully at the age of 62 years. Throughout his entire life, he was a beacon of inspiration to all who knew him and his courage and strength during his illness was unmatched. He will live on in the hearts of his wife Surinder, his children Sanjeev and Balmin and the apple of his eye, his granddaughter Jaiya. He was a respected and admired individual who will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wide circle of family and friends.

Born in Rajasthan, India, Joginder Singh completed his MBBS in Rajasthan in 1968, and his Masters in surgery in Chandigarh in 1971. In 1972 he immigrated to Canada, got married and continued with his medical education and completed his specialization in Pathology in 1979. His studies and his career gave him the opportunity to call Port Alberni, Winnipeg, Nanaimo, Vancouver, Vernon, Chilliwack and Abbotsford his home. Whether as a medical professional or a community member, Joginder Singh was actively involved in a vast array of medical associations, health boards and community groups. He was the Head Pathologist of MSA Hospital and also served as the President of the Abbotsford Medical Association. He shared the vision of the new community hospital in Abbotsford and was looking forward to the day it would become a reality.

Joginder Singh was an avid reader, philosopher, and had a deep love for education and the pursuit of knowledge. He was eager to spend his time as a doting, loving grandfather to Jaiya. Her birth was one of the happiest events of his life and his wish was to take her by the hand to the library and to her first day of school.

The family would like to thank Joginder Singh's colleagues, family, friends, and medical teams at the Cancer Society, Royal Columbian and MSA Hospitals for their unwavering support. To the staff at the Christine Morrison Hospice, we will be eternally grateful for your warmth and exceptional care.
