GROENING, Jim

Jim Groening, 75 years of age, of Mission, BC, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013. He was born to the late Jake and Helen Groening. The family moved to Mission in the mid 1940's where Jim went to school. In his youth he was involved in the Mission Soap Box Derby for 4 years. He built his own race car. He was so meticulous with every detail the judges thought it was done by a professional. While he was working at a local mill he won the shingle packing contest for BC for speed and accuracy. In his early years he started a tire business that became very successful in the Hatzic area. He branched out to Mission in later years. He was always interested in machinery and how things worked. He was creative and innovative and built many things in his life. He never missed a day of work. He took great pride in being very dependable and reliable. He woke every morning with an enthusiasm for life. He was a loyal and loving husband, and loved his dogs. Left to grieve is his wife Bev, his loyal and faithful companions Bo and Toby; his children Loraine, Glen (Lorraine); and their mother Linda; his granddaughter Rebecca and his step grandson Kurtis; step children Kandice (Darryl) & Susan (Bruce); and step grandchildren Laine and Kadie; his sister Lil and brothers Cal, Bill (Carol), Walt (Barb) and John (Maureen); brother-in-law Brian and nieces.
