April 15, 1935 - April 7, 2021
It is with great sadness that our much loved dad, grandpa, great grandpa and partner passed away suddenly on April 7, 2021.
Jerry was born in Friesland, Netherlands. After hearing from his brother Tom that Canada was the land of opportunity, Jerry immigrated to Canada at the age of 18. He worked on various dairy farms and spent time working in The Yukon gold fields.
After saving enough money, he returned to Friesland to bring back his future bride. Gay and Jerry were married October 17, 1958, where they settled in the Fraser Valley building a life with little money but rooted in faith.
The two bought their first farm in Sumas Prairie. In 1968 they moved with their four children to a dairy farm on Fore Road in Matsqui; they named it Jerandall Dairies, which derived from Jerry, Andy and Allen. The family farm continues to operate today.
Jerry was predeceased by his wife Gay after 54 years of marriage. He is survived by his partner Beverley Brown, sons Andy (Cindy), Allen (Tracey) and daughters Grace (Doug) Cowen, Jeanette (Glen) Douglas, his grandkids Keith, Travis (Michelle), Amanda (Joel), Josh (Katie), Jared, Danelle, Justin (Sydney), Paige (Wyatt), and Clayton, and by his great grandchildren Morgan & Colton, Sophia & Beckett, Luke & Elle, and Dawson.
His life's passions included farming, fishing, and playing cards. He always loved a good party; in their younger years, Gay and Jerry never missed a Matsqui Hall dance.
After losing his wife in 2012 he was fortunate to find a loving partner in Bev. For the past seven years they shared a home, many walks at Mill Lake and nightly card games - greatly enriching each other's lives.
Jerry had the knack of being able to start a conversation with anyone who crossed his path. He loved Dutch music and had a gift for playing the harmonica.
He will always be remembered for his infectious smile and sense of humor. He had such a love for life and even greater love for his family. Dad/Gramps will be greatly missed.
Due to Covid 19, a family only memorial will be held at a future date.
