Balzer, Janet Margurite (nee Thornton)
Mom and Pops are together again March 24, 2010. Mom was born in Melville, Saskatchewan Dec 11, 1925. Janet was happiest surrounded by her family. Her later years were spent on Saltspring Island and in Abbotsford. She was always entertaining and loved to have people visit. Mom was more than happy to play some cards with friends and family. She loved all types of crafts and oh my goodness did she have supplies! A day out fishing or digging for clams was heart happy. Mom had a passion for collecting angels of all shapes and sizes. Now she has truly joined them. She was fiercely independent and loved her freedom, making the later years very challenging.
The last few years have been very difficult and trying for her. The gift that she has given us is Courage. She faced her trials with immense courage and never stopped fighting. On the wings of angels you have taken your final journey Home. No more hurdles, no more "one more thing", no more pain, only peace! Janet is predeceased by the love of her life Art Balzer June 11, 2004. She is survived by her sons Gord Betker (Brenda) Ron Betker (Maria), daughters, Janis Long (Ken), Donna O'Donnell (Ken), stepsons George Balzer (Molly), Doug Balzer (Debbie) and very special ladies Virg Reimer (Wilf) and Gloria Herbert (Graham). Mom's grandchildren and great grandsons have been the lights of her life. Janet is survived by her sisters Doris Cottle, Lorraine Smith and Marjorie Cox. A very special thank you to the amazing staff at Sherwood Crescent Guest Home and the kind and compassionate care at Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
There will be a Celebration of Mom's life on April 3, 2010 from 1 to 4pm at the amenities building for Crown Point Villas 34899 Old Clayburn Road in Abbotsford. Everyone is welcome and the family looks forward to spending time with all of you. In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to a charity of your choice.
