APPELDOORN; Jan Willem

June 11, 1931 ~ November 27, 2016


Jan passed away peacefully after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. The oldest of seven, Jan was born in Maarn, The Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of 16. He settled in Terrace where he started driving logging trucks, earning the nickname "The Flying Dutchman". The family moved to Abbotsford and started farming. After dairy farming, Jan returned to truck driving, running a successful gravel hauling company. He retired in Courtenay with his new bride, Pacita. He was a man with many names; JW, Wim, Bill, John, Jan, Willy, Grandpa, Oompa, Uncle Wim. Jan will be missed by his wife Pacita, children; Deana, Jim (Monica), Bill and Dave (Lisa) along with his brothers and sisters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jan spent his retirement fishing, gardening and travelling. He will be forever loved and remembered for his kindness and generosity. Small family memorial by request.
