WAARDENBURG - James(Jim)was born July 30, 1936 in Winterswyk, Netherlands. He immigrated to Canada with his parents and brother Albert when he was 17 years old joining his older brother Wayne and sister Rene. He married Phyllis Rolls in 1957 and they raised four children: Lawrence (Andrea), Debbie, Barry (Sharon), and Darryl (Joanne). Jim loved his family which also included grandchildren Brandon (Tiffany), Kyle, Pamela, Makayla, Kira, Bryanna, Dakota, and Wyatt and great grandchildren Isaiah and Jacob. Jim enjoyed working at the Royal Bank for 16 years (1953 to 1969) and being an active member in the dairy industry. He served on several boards - Director and President with the Fraser Valley Milk Producers Co-op Assn, Chairman of the BC Farm Debt Review Board, Director and President for Dairy Farmers of Canada, Vice-President of Dairyland, and President of the MSA Society of the Mentally Handicapped (now known as the MSA Society for Community Living). He has made many lasting friendships over the years. He was a proud owner and operator of the Waardenburg Brothers Dairy Farm in Matsqui from 1968 to 2000 along with brothers Wayne (Clara) and Albert (Ann). His nephews Paul Van Dokkumburg and Wesley Waardenburg later joined the operations until the farm retired in 2000. Jim loved camping and fishing with his family and friends. His favourite camping and fishing spot was in Powell River, BC. During retirement, in addition to RVing, he took a keen interest in gardening and worked in the yard keeping the gardens neat and tidy. Jim passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital & Cancer Centre after a courageous battle with lung cancer. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to all the doctors, nurses and brother-in-law, Pat Bolen, who gave exceptional care during his stay.
