March 20, 1939 - May 29, 2024

With heavy hearts we announce that Jim passed away peacefully at the age of 85 with family by his side at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. He was born in Burnie, Tasmania, and grew up in London, England. He qualified as a mechanical engineer and emigrated to Canada in 1970 with his beloved wife Julia. They eventually settled in Abbotsford where they raised three sons. Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years Julia; sons Andrew (Micheline), Kevin (Elaine) and Martin (Elodie); grandsons Ethan (Charlotte), Wyatt, Chace, Linden, Johnny, Angus and Bruce; beloved sisters Dorothy, Elizabeth (Keith), Sheila (Michael) and Winifred (John); nephews and nieces.

Jim was a retired Honorary Colonel in the Canadian Army Reserves, served on committees in the Abbotsford Calvin Presbyterian Church and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15. He was very active with the community youth, serving as Commanding Officer of 861 Silverfox Air Cadet Squadron and committee chairman of Abbotsford Scouts. He coached for minor and men's soccer teams and will be missed supporting from the sidelines. He enjoyed sports, theatre, opera, reading and was a generous host to family and friends. His passion, integrity, booming voice and contagious laugh will never be forgotten.

In memory of Jim donations can be made to VETS Canada (vetscanada.org), Canadian Cancer Society (cancer.ca), or Calvin Presbyterian Church (calvinpresbyterian.ca/give). A celebration of life will be held at 3pm on Sunday, July 14th, 2024, at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 33911 Hazelwood Avenue, Abbotsford.
