October 23, 1959 - September 20, 2018
James Gordon was born to Fletcher and Maye Hemmons in Prince Rupert. At the age of 22 he left Rupert to seek employment in Castlegar. It was there that Jim accepted Jesus as his Saviour. He had an insatiable appetite for the Word of God, so four months later he enrolled at Prairie Bible College. There he met the love of his life, Verna Reimer from Steinbach, MB. Jim and Verna were married October 23, 1959 and added to their family two children, Debrah Mae and Douglas James. After two years in Castlegar, they moved to Vancouver where Jim attended UBC and got his B.Ed. He returned to Castlegar to teach until his early retirement in 1988. The next move was to Abbotsford where he enjoyed 30 years of doing the things he never had time for; spending time with the family, fishing, camping, travelling and most of all teaching the Bible. In 2017 Jim was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and every breath was a gift from God; On September 20, 2018 with his wife and two children at his side he peacefully went to heaven for his reward.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Verna, brother Ron (Phyllis), daughter Debrah (Craig) Mowbray, and his son Douglas (Yvonne), four grandchildren and a new great grandson.

A service of remembrance will be held October 13 at 2:00 pm at Central Heights Church, 1661 McCallum Road, Abbotsford. Our family extends a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff on CHEAM who cared for Jim the last two weeks. Their love and compassion is to be commended.
