October 21, 1925 – November 9, 2021
Jake “Jasch” Tilitzky passed away on November 9, 2021 at the age of 96. He leaves behind a loving wife of 69 years, Erna, sister-in-law Mary Derksen, and many
nieces and nephews.
Jake was born in Gruenfeld, Ukraine on October 21, 1925 and moved to Canada with his parents before he was even a year old. He was baptized in 1947 at West Abbotsford Mennonite Church and on November 22, 1952, married Erna Derksen. Together they created a beautiful home on three acres on Queen Street and lived there for 54 years.
Jake & Erna were called to Eben-Ezer Mennonite Church to serve as a pastor couple in 1963 where he was affectionately called JT. He also served as conference representative and leader of the Conference of Mennonites in BC, Mennonite Church Canada, General Conference Mennonite Church North America and as conference representative on the Mennonite World Conference.
In January of 2020, Jake and Erna moved to The Mayfair Senior Living & Care community and Erna is so very grateful for their tender love and care. Jake was a blessing to many and will be dearly missed. He is now with his Saviour and Lord.
“So wie ich bin, so muß es sein, nicht meine Kraft, nur Du allein.
Dein Blut wäscht mich von Flekken rein,
O Gottes Lamm, ich komm, ich komm.”
Interment was held at Maclure Mennonite Cemetery at 9:30 am on Thursday, November 18 followed by a memorial service at the Eben-Ezer Mennonite Church, 2051 Windsor Street, Abbotsford, BC at 11 am.
