Jacob "Jake" Born of Abbotsford passed away on Wednesday, May 17th at the age of 96.
He is survived by his wife Hilda (nee Klassen) to whom he was married for nearly 70 years.
He is also survived by his five children David (Loraine), Teresa, John (Ellie), J. Bryan (Teresa) and Mathew (Debbie) as well as his 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Jacob was born in Sedalia, Alberta, and moved to Matsqui Prairie in 1948 just before the Flood. Jacob was a trucker and long-time dairy farmer in Mt. Lehman and Matsqui.
Jacob was profoundly grateful for God's blessings which had come his way because his parents had taken the risks associated with moving from Ukraine to Canada in 1926. He will be sorely missed for his deep commitment to his children, family, friends, and for his faith.
Jacob was known for his generous spirit, incredible work ethic, wry smile, dry sense of humor (even in the end!), guitar and harmonica playing, and his commitment to donating blood (well over 100 pints!).
Employing his beautiful tenor voice, he sang in choirs and quartets from age 14 to 90.
Many thanks to the staff at the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission for their care and kindness to our entire family during Jake's final days.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 31st at 11:00 am at Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church.
