Jacob (Jack) Richard deJong

It is with heavy hearts the deJong family announces that Jack deJong of Abbotsford BC, passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with Alzhiemers at The Residence In Mission (TRIM) on August 26, 2022.

Jack was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands on December 13 of 1928 to Abraham and Maria deJong along with 2 younger brothers Bram and Anton. He grew up in Haarlem, NL., on a farm where he developed a strong worth ethic and a passion for farming.

Jack emigrated to Canada in 1955, where he arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Pier 21.

He then travelled to the Fraser Valley of British Columbia by train, where he found work as a farm hand. He later returned to school and became an electrician by trade which also became his passion.

He married Johanna deJong on October 22, 1960. Together they raised a family of four children. He loved soccer (Manchester United), hockey (Toronto Maple Leafs), and fishing during summer holidays.

Proud Grandfather/Opa to Daryl, Marlena, Travis, Nicole and Zachary and great grandfather to eight.

He is survived by his wife Ann deJong, his children Maja, Michael and Isabelle, Patricia, Richard and Tracy deJong.

The deJong family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at TRIM (The Residence In Mission) for the great care and support over these past 7 years to our loved one. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzhiemers Society of BC.

St. Joesph's Catholic Church

September 10 at 10:00 am
