In August 1942 he enlisted in the US Army Signal Corp and was assigned to the 843rd Signal Battalion. They were married on December 26, 1945. Joan and Jack were blessed with two beautiful daughters and a handsome son. Their youngest daughter Martha Welton was stricken with a terminal case of lung cancer and Jack and Joan moved from California to Abbotsford in May 1988 to be supportive of their daughter. They lost her to cancer in October 1988 (six months later) and they decided to stay in their home here in Abbotsford.
