Jack Kipple

Nov. 20, 1921 ~ Oct. 10, 2007

Jack was born to Martha and Clarence Burket in the railroad town of Altoona, Pennsylvania on November 20, 1921. He has outlived his two older brothers, Frank and Oliver.

In August 1942 he enlisted in the US Army Signal Corp and was assigned to the 843rd Signal Battalion. The Signal Battalion was assigned the task of building and maintaining a telephone line paralleling the Alaska Highway for 220 miles from Edmonton, Alberta to Fairbanks, Alaska. The highway and the telephone line passed through the small town of High Prairie, Alberta where Jack met and married Joan Walker, daughter of Esther Ann and Charles Walker. They were married on December 26, 1945. Joan and Jack were blessed with two beautiful daughters and a handsome son. Their youngest daughter Martha Welton was stricken with a terminal case of lung cancer and Jack and Joan moved from California to Abbotsford in May 1988 to be supportive of their daughter. They lost her to cancer in October 1988 (six months later) and they decided to stay in their home here in Abbotsford.

Jack is survived by his wife Joan, his daughter Nancy Humphries of Abbotsford, and their son Mark Burket of San Carlos, CA. Their marriage was blessed with seven grandsons, Bentley, Chad, Cody, & Kyle here in Abbotsford and Joshua, Zachary and Trevor in San Carlos, CA. Their only granddaughter Kimberley Buckley of Chilliwack, B.C. presented Joan & Jack with their first great grandson, Liam Buckley in February, 2004.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Abbotsford Evangelical Free Church, 33218 Marshall Rd.
