Irene Gorton BROWN (nee Bell)

May 27, 2005

Irene Gorton (nee Bell) quietly passed away Friday, May 27, 2005 at the extended care unit of the Mission Memorial Hospital at the age of 87.

Predeceased by Ken, her husband of 50 years; brother John Bell; sister Helen Sutherland and twin sister May Normand. She is survived and forever loved by her sister Lorraine Nordin and her many nieces, nephews, their families and her friends.

Irene was born in Ladysmith on Feb. 27, 1918 but grew up in the Kerrisdale area. After marrying Ken, they built their home of 30 years on Number One road in Richmond. After a long career working for Eaton’s at their Vancouver office, Irene and Ken retired to their summer home at Silvermere Lake in the Mission area. Irene enjoyed her retirement at the lake and spent her time hosting barbeques for her friends, family and organizations. Irene had many passions in life but none more so than her long time involvement with "TOPS" and the friends she made there.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and the caregivers for their support during Irene’s illness. We would especially like to thank Pearl DeLorme and Darienne Postles, good friend Dian Brooks and neighbours Denny, Sudhin and Shivani Bahadur and Nikita Prasad. In celebration of Auntie Irene’s life there will be a barbeque and sharing of memories with friends and family at her home on Sunday June 5, 2005 at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of choice. Good-bye Irene, we’ll miss you but you are in a better place now, Ken has been waiting for you.
