Ina Mary Reid

January 4, 1917 ~ January 13, 2017

Ina Mary Reid (Montgomery) was born in Choteau, Montana, USA. Ina passed away peacefully at Menno Hospital, Abbotsford, BC surrounded by those who loved her. She is survived by her son Bill (Chris) Reid and her daughter Pat Knelsen, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence Bond Reid, sisters Irene Berkey, Elva Moser and Ina Ruth in infancy and brother Lloyd in infancy. As a child Ina moved to Morse, Saskatchewan where she grew up. Ina went to normal school in Regina, SK to become a teacher. When Ina graduated she started teaching at Rouleau, SK. She worked there until 1937 when a teaching position was obtained south of Herbert. Teaching did not turn out to be a successful career for that area or time so Ina returned to school. Ina enrolled in the Regina Grey Nuns Schools of Nursing and graduated in 1941. Ina married Lawrence Reid on May 2, 1942. Lawrence was a C.P.R. agent 1949-1957 working at stations in Saskatchewan and Manitoba while Ina continued with her nursing career helping in the community and setting up the first aid dispensaries. In the late 50's the family moved to Surrey, British Columbia where they both worked for Correctional Services. In the early 60's they moved their family to Abbotsford, British Columbia where Ina and Lawrence continued their career with Correctional Services Canada until retirement. Family and friends were very important to Ina. She hosted many gatherings in her home. Ina enjoyed reading and baking. She spent happy times playing bridge at the old Friendship House on Marshall Road and later at the Senior's Centre on McMillan both located in Abbotsford, BC. Ina enjoyed the company of all those who came to visit her when she lived in Menno Hospital. We would like to thank the staff at Menno Hospital for their loving care in her final years. A private service will be held in the Spring of 2017.
