May 19, 2020 at 8:00 pm, Ian Alexander McDonald peacefully passed away in the presence of his family, at home at the age of 88.
Born in Kisbey, Saskatchewan to Harry Alexander McDonald and Bessie Mae Pridmore.
Ian is survived by his wife, Carmel McDonald, sister Mary Joyce McDonald, son John (Cindy) McDonald, granddaughters Taylor and Katelyn, son David (Roxanne) McDonald, grandson Shane (Dawna) McDonald, great granddaughter Juniper, granddaughter Jessica Mancor, great grandson Darien, great granddaughter Solace,daughter-in-law Fern McDonald and Don Wenting and grandchildren Travis, Cameron, Rachelle and Amanda.
Ian travelled across Canada working in mining, surveying and drilling. He met and married Carmel Sottile in Coniston, Ontario on November 1, 1956.
Ian was a man of character, a "Diamond in the Rough" who always came through when needed. In the past they would have said "He was a man to ride the river with". He never judged or criticized, but was always the first person to tackle any job that came up.
Ian's greatest love was family, baseball and the outdoors. As a young man in Kamloops he was a skilled baseball player nicknamed "Tiger" for his feisty style of play. In Sault Ste Marie he was called "Salty" for his drive to fish no matter what the weather conditions were. In Elliot Lake he was known as "Mac" for his long jokes and yarns he would tell. And in BC he was known as "Radar" for his ability to never get lost no matter where he went hiking, fishing or hunting.
In the McDonald clan... he was simply a Legend, that will be very much missed.
The Celebration of Life was held at St. James Catholic Church in Abbotsford, BC.
