PASTUCK, Hilda Montgomery (nee Freer)

Peacefully, with her family at her side, Hilda passed away on January 5, 2013 at the age of 98. She was born in Rocanville, Saskatchewan on November 25, 1914 to Oswald and Alla Freer. The family moved to Winnipeg while Hilda was very young. She attended John M King, Laura Secord and Gordon Bell High Schools. After completing Success Business College she commenced work with United Grain Growers. On July 6, 1940 she married her high school sweetheart Maurie Montgomery. They built their first home in St. Vital in 1945 where they raised their two daughters. Hilda was active at the Windsor Community Club where she taught and shared her many sewing talents, one of which was making leather gloves. She was active at St. Mark’s Anglican Church. Hilda and Maurie shared several years enjoying golf at the Pine Ridge Golf & Country Club. Maurie passed away suddenly in 1963. Hilda married Russell Pastuck and upon retirement, they moved to Abbotsford, BC where they enjoyed their hobby farm and gardening. Hilda especially loved her rose garden where she successfully grew many different varieties of roses. She took great delight in sharing many Christmas craft fairs with Maureen.

Hilda was predeceased by her parents, Oswald and Alla Freer; her husband, Maurie Montgomery; her sisters, Helena Carriere and Joyce Potter; son-in-law, Norm Rogers; and her second husband, Russell Pastuck. She is survived by her loving daughters, Joan Rogers and Maureen (Eric) Janzen. Also surviving her are 5 grandchildren, - Kim (Murray) Schmidt, Christine (Pat) Nolan, Paul Rogers, Derek Janzen and Lorie (Steve) Welsh. There are 12 great grandchildren, – Hayley, Max, Kelsey and Morgan Schmidt, Brianna, Daniel, Stephanie and Brandon Nolan, Brayden and Alex Janzen, Avery and Oliver Welsh. She is survived by one nephew, Allan (Trina) Potter. Hilda is also survived by 3 step children, Richard Pastuck, Doug (Vicki) Pastuck and Maureen (Ken) Parker and families.

Hilda was a 25 year member of the Electa Chapter, Abbotsford Eastern Star and a long time member of Daughters of the Nile. After Russell’s passing in 2008, Hilda has resided with Maureen and Eric since 2009 where she lived her remaining years. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 10:00 am at Trinity United Church, 33737 George Ferguson Way, Abbotsford, with Rev. Bill Booth officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
