Surrounded by his family, our beloved Dad passed away in the presence of his Lord with the assurance of eternal life.
Herman was born in Apeldoorn, in the Netherlands, the second youngest of eleven children. When he was a young adult he immigrated to Canada, and married the love of his life, Afina Postema. They raised their family in Chilliwack and in Abbotsford where he was a both a dairy farmer and a hog farmer.
He is predeceased by his wife Afina, as well as all his 10 siblings. He is survived by his five children; Eda (Doug) Shore, Gary (Terril) Veeneman, Henriette (Rick) DeWolde, Miranda (John) Heyd, Elaine (Harry) Makkinga, 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Dad cherished his relationships that developed at the Menno Place Pavilion where he lived for 12 years. He especially enjoyed the fellowship and close community he experienced there. As a member of Living Hope Christian Reformed Church for over 50 years, Dad was part of a loving community of believers. We are grateful for those who supported and remained connected to Dad over the years.
Our family would also like to thank the staff at Holmberg House Hospice for the tender, loving and compassionate care he received over the past 3 months.
Psalm 121 vs 1-2 "I will lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, Maker of Heaven and Earth."
A live-streamed Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 3rd at 2:30 pm, at Living Hope CRC Church, Abbotsford.
