Herbert Raymond (Ray) SMITH

Herbert Raymond (Ray), born January 11, 1922 in Burton-upon-Trent, England, passed away peacefully February 17, 2005.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Dorothy, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage. daughter Carolyn and husband Tom have many memories of “Granderand” to share with grandchildren Stephanie and Andrew, wife Andrea and great-grandson Owen.

Ray was predeceased by his sister May and brother Bill. He will be lovingly remembered by sister Betty; brother John and wife Marion; brother Peter and wife Joyce; numerous nieces and nephews, all living in England.

Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1957 Ray began a career in the insurance business, which continued through to his retirement, from ICBC. Ray was an active member of the New Westminster Fish and Game Club, Westwater Fly Fishers and had the honour of being presented with a “Gilly” award from the BC Federation of Fly Fishers. He travelled extensively throughout BC, always with a fly rod close by, and although he caught many it was the one that was released that became important to him. Ray was a member of the Royal Naval Patrol Service and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 24, 11 am at the Royal Canadian Legion, 32627 Logan Ave., Mission.
