Henry John Unger. June 21, 1923 -

May 3, 2011. Henry passed away peacefully in his 88th year with his wife of nearly 58 years at his side. He faced thyroid cancer and Parkinson's Disease with courage, dignity and without complaint. He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by his wife Luella, children Ardythe (Gary) Taylor, Myrna (Patrick) Coleman, Ronald (Anne) Unger, and grandchildren Katie, Michael, Henry, Ben, Eli, Will, Sam and Rebecca. He was predeceased by his beloved son Lorne. Henry deeply loved his family; taking pride in his children's accomplishments and especially delighting in his grand children. Henry was passionate about his teaching career. He taught chemistry and math in Alberta, at the Mennonite Educational Institute in Abbotsford, University of Ibadan in Nigeria, Langley School District and Abbotsford School District. After retirement he spent more than ten years teaching literacy and math within Canada Corrections Institutions. He found much fulfillment during these years. Henry will also be remembered as a man of deep faith who served with commitment. Viewing will be held Thursday May 12 at the Woodlawn Funeral Home, 2310 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford from 7 - 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at Bakerview M.B. Church, 2285 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford on Friday, May 13 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) Box 2038 Abbotsford, BC V2T 3T8 or www.mcc.org and will be gratefully accepted.
