TEICHROB, Henry

1924 - 2016

Henry Teichrob passed away in complete peace, surrounded by the love of his family on March 19, 2016 at Maple Ridge Hospital. Born in Siberia in 1924, he came to Canada as a child of refugees; his parents eventually settled in Indian Head, Saskatchewan.

He is predeceased by his daughter, Barbara (1977), his mother, Maria, father, David, his siblings, Mary, John, Peter, Jake and David.

He married the love of his life, Freda Hiebert, in 1945, and they recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Henry excelled in academic life and for more than thirty years, he was an educator and administrator in Saskatchewan, at Caronport High School and in the city of Regina. When he retired from his profession, he and his wife Freda served for ten years in Christian ministry that took them to hundreds of churches in North America, Europe and, courageously, to Russia right after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

After moving to Abbotsford in 1975, Henry took up civic life as an expression of his belief that the privilege of Canadian citizenship meant service to his community. Over 14 years, he was both a school trustee and a city councillor during which time he sat on a multitude of boards and commissions. Among many other benefits, he helped to bring public transit, a new library and the Abbotsford Regional Hospital to his beloved city. He mentored and encouraged leaders in government at every level. During this time, he developed Allied Property Management as a successful business partnership. Henry was deeply engaged in church life, offering his leadership at Seven Oaks Alliance and Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren. Most important to Henry were his faith and his family, whom he adored and loved without reserve. Left to mourn his loss and to celebrate his life are his beloved wife, Freda, his daughter Lynn, his son Gerry (Ruth), his grandchildren Leah, Julie (Darren), Matthew (Heather), Rachel (Derek) and his great-grandson, Graham.

His memorial service will be held at Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church, 2719 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, on Monday, April 4th at 2:00 p.m.
