Henry James Schmidt

April 22, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Henry Schmidt. He was a Father, Son, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Friend, Pastor, and Spiritual Father to many. He passed away very unexpectedly at ARH on the morning of April 22 after suffering a stroke the night before. His children and other loved ones were able to be with him before he passed.
He will be missed dearly by his three children, their spouses, and 8 grandchildren: Amy and Gabriel (Zion, Justice, and Lailah-Dawn), Sophia and Ryan (Anastasia and Aleksandre), and Michael and Kelsey (Judah, Theo, and Everly). He was predeceased by his wife, Erica; his brothers, Eric (Sandy) and Ernie (Carol); and sister, Lucy (Dave Gmur).
Henry was born in Abbotsford in 1948 and spent most of his life here, making a significant impact on the people of this community through his great capacity to love. He pastored at Living Faith Christian Centre for 15 years, taught at local Bible schools and training centres, and travelled extensively (roughly 65 countries). He was a good father and grandfather to his children and grandchildren, spending lots of time going to parks, going for walks and hikes, doing puzzles, playing board games, and enjoying many meals, coffees, and ice creams with them in recent years. Even though he and Erica only had 3 natural children, they also had hundreds of spiritual children around the world. His passion was for raising up the next generation of followers of Christ through discovering the Father’s heart and the Revelation of Jesus Christ. He poured out his life, wisdom, and spirit into the people around him.
Although we will miss him greatly here on earth, he has graduated and is rejoicing with Jesus and Erica in Heaven. There are many “eagles” who, confident in their identity and released into their destiny, will carry on Henry’s legacy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at South Abbotsford MB Church on Wednesday, May 4 at 1 pm. If unable to join in person, please view the livestream: https://www.legacystreaming.com/henry-schmidt/
The work of Prem & Lalita Bahadur in Nepal was very near to Henry’s heart and he was able to minister alongside them many times.
