July 20, 1924 – December 19, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Helene Grigg (nee Klassen) announces that she was called home to her Saviour in heaven, on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at the age of 94 years. She was preceded in death in 2006 by her husband of 52 years Donald O. Grigg. Helene will be dearly remembered by her three children Doreen Rennick (Dan), Jim Grigg (Brenda), and Dolores Girard (Christian), as well as her six grandchildren, Krys (Mike), Tiffany (Alex), Jynelle (Brock), Taylor, Rachelle, and Emily.
Helene was born in Gnadenheim, Russia, and immigrated with her parents, Cornelius H. Klassen and Helena (nee Ratzlaff), and her siblings to Dunrae, Manitoba when she was two years old. At age 12, her family moved to Abbotsford to begin farming. Helene had a total of 11 siblings; preceded in death are Cornelius (Carter), Ann Quiring, Tina, Herman, Peter, Katie Enns, Henry, and John. She is survived by three sisters: Susan Thiessen, Mary Klassen and Bette Stone and two sisters-in-law: Margaret Klassen and Betty Klassen.
Helene lived and worked with her husband and children on a small dairy farm on Grigg Road in East Chilliwack for more than 22 years. She was an excellent gardener and a lover of animals. Helene loved God and was passionate about children and serving others. She worked as a well loved elementary school teacher for many years in the Chilliwack School District. Helene also had a committed faith in Jesus Christ. She attended the Chilliwack Alliance Church for more than 50 years where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and helped bake homemade cakes for many church events, including funerals. In the last few years of her life, Helene moved back to live with her daughter, Dolores, and finally in the last 8 months lived in Tabor Court which she really enjoyed.
