1921 – 2016

Helen Francis Wolfe (nee Toews), was born on November 22, 1921 in Zagradovka, Ukraine to Franz and Lena Toews (Berg), the fifth of seven children. In 1924 the family emigrated to Canada and moved to southern Alberta before homesteading near Grande Prairie. In 1937 the family moved to Yarrow, BC. As a young woman Helen worked as a maid in Vancouver before she married Peter Wolfe in 1944. She looked after their four children while her husband was often out of town working in construction. After Peter passed away in 1993, Helen moved to a townhouse and then a condo in Abbotsford. She was able to live independently until June 2nd of this year when declining health made it necessary for her to move to the Menno Home. Helen was predeceased by her parents, husband, two sisters, three brothers, and a daughter-in-law. Mourning her passing are her four children, Diane Martens (Victor), Kathleen McNaughton (Don), Peter (Annette), Alexandra Christon, her ten grandchildren Peter Martens (Natsuki), Andrew Martens (Julia), Melanie McNaughton, Marlise McNaughton, Rachel Richardson (Chris), Erik Wolfe (Holly), Kelly McIntyre (Conrad), Michael Christon (Brittany), Justine Christon, Jared Christon and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Erna Hamm and two sisters-in-law Helen Kaethler and Audrey Wolfe as well as many other extended family members. Internment will take place at the Yarrow Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016 to be followed by a Memorial Service at the Clearbrook M. B. Church, 2719 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford at 11:00 a.m. on Friday the 15th as well. Online condolences to the family may be made at: www.woodlawnfh-abbotsford.com
