Helen HOOCK

Helen Hoock - Born May 2, 1912 in the Ukraine and emigrated to Canada with her parents Dietrich & Amalie Friesen and 3 sisters in 1923. The family lived in Heidelberg, Saskatewan and later bought a large farm in Dundurn together with other Mennonite families. Around 1930 Helen worked as a live-in housekeeper in Saskatoon and in 1934 moved to Vancouver, where she met and married Nick Hoock in 1937. They moved to the North Otter area of Langley in 1938 where they cleared land for a home, chicken barns and strawberries, and raised 4 children. In the sixties Nick, together with other partners, started building homes and barns for people. They moved to a house Nick built in the town of Aldergrove in 1966. After Nick died in 1978, Helen moved to an apartment close by and in 1986 moved to an apartment in Clearbrook. By 1996 she was ready to move to the Menno Pavillion Seniors Complex on Marshall Road, Abbotsford where she lived until the beginning of November when she was admitted to the MSA Hospital. On November 18, she suffered a major stroke and got her wish to be with the Lord on December 8, 2004. She was loved and appreciated by many, including her immediate family: Son Art & Vicky; Son Henry; Daughter Alice & Gordon Schindel; Daughter Nancy; 5 Grandchildren and their spouses and 8 Great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2004 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Clearbrook Mennonite Church. Family Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Langley Lawn Cemetery—4400 block of 208th Street, Langley, B.C. Memorial Service 1:00 p.m. at Clearbrook Mennonite Church 32027 Peardonville Road, Abbotsford, B.C. Pastor Dietrick Rempel officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to M.C.C. B.C. or charity of choice.
