March 30, 1928 - May 22, 2024

Hedy Martens was born on March 30,1928 in Blumenort, Saskatchewan. Her family later moved to Yarrow, BC ,where she met and married her highschool sweetheart Johnny Martens. Together they ran a successful business before retiring and enjoyed extensive travel until Johnny passed away in 2004.

Hedy is survived by her daughter Kate (Dan), her son Bryan, her grandchildren Brett (Faith), Patrick (Lauren) and Camille (Farley) and her great-grandchildren Astrud, Tatum, and Issei. She is also survived by her best friend Karen (Bill), her beloved sister Mary, her brothers Erwin, Hank, and Vic, and many other friends and family members. She was predeceased by her sisters Helen and Agnes, and her brothers Pete and Jake.

Hedy was a secret bowling champion and an unparalleled Jeopardy master. She was a fabulous knitter, quilter and world-class cook, with a musical talent that included a lovely singing voice. Her sense of humour and laughter brightened every room she entered. Known for her colourful outfits and flamboyant jewelry she always stood out in a crowd. Mom was a lot of fun and we will miss her dearly.

We extend our gratitude to Dr Culkin, Raj and Hark, her wonderful care aides, and the kind nurses MJ and Danny. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Hedy's name to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. A memorial service is planned for a later date.
