It is with profound sorrow that the family of Hal Ballard, 86, announces his peaceful passing in his home on February 19, 2007. Hal was married to Eileen (Lee) for 64 loving years. They were married during WWII, while Hal was a pilot in the RCAF, and settled in Toronto after the War until their retirement to Florida. They have lived in Abbotsford, BC since 1996.
Hal’s greatest pleasure was his family. He was Dad to Gary (Gayle Stephen), Jennine (Bill Ince) and Lynn (Mike Kirkus), Poppa to Jimmy, David, Kerry and Craig, and Great-Poppa to Austin and Tyler. He leaves two sisters, Marie (Joe O’Donnell) and Noreen (Johnny O’Connor) whom he loved very much.
He has both given and received tremendous support from mutual friends of Bill W. for 46 years. A big fan of baseball, especially the Toronto Blue Jays, Hal was also an avid, accomplished golfer. He always enjoyed a game of cards and while not as good as Lee, he was a good player (he would argue the point). He enjoyed travel in general, and cruising in particular.
It is so difficult to convey the essence of the man through words, but those of us lucky enough to have known him will live all our days with his widsom, compassion, understanding.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 33333 Mayfair, Abbotsford on Friday, February 23 at 10:30 a.m., and a reception will be held at the Church. (Donations to a favourite charity in lieu of flowers).Â
