November 7, 1924 - August 9, 2018
H. Emery Alstad passed away peacefully on August 9, 2018 at the age of 93 at the Mayfair Senior Living and Care Facility in Abbotsford. 

He was predeceased by his wife Freda and brothers Vernon and Gordon. He leaves behind his two sons Daryl (Ellen) and Faron (Trish); grandchildren Alicia (Sean), Bryanna (Chris), Travis, and Nathan; sisters Orma McKenzie and Elda (Cliff) Magneson; and many nieces and nephews.

Emery was born November 7, 1924 to Jasper and Grace Alstad in Lancer Saskatchewan. He was born second of five children. Emery served our country at 20 years of age when he was deployed to the Netherlands. In January 1945, he sustained an injury and convalesced in England before being sent home to Saskatchewan.

He met the love of his life Freda Noble in 1947 and married 5 months later. After various jobs, he settled in Mission as a mill worker. Emery worked at Stave Lake, Hammond, and Whonnock until retirement. In 1988, Freda and Emery moved to Hornby Island, enjoying fishing and island life for 14 years. After the passing of Freda, Emery lived in Sardis, Mission, and Abbotsford.

The family would like to thank Mayfair Senior Living and Care Facility in Abbotsford and Carrington Senior Living in Mission for their wonderful care and compassion over the last few years, and especially in his last few days.

A memorial will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Mission, 32627 Logan Ave, Mission, BC, V2V 6K4, on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 11 am - 2 pm.

Emery Alstad to the Veterans Transition Network or another charity of your choice. Veterans Transition Network is a Canadian charity providing support for veterans transitioning back to civilian life, including help dealing with post-traumatic stress.
