RITCHIE, Gordon John McDowell

Born December 6, 1923 in Montreal, and passed away in Abbotsford Regional Hospital January 15, 2010, at the age of 86 years. His wife Sally Ann, sister Agnes Cerny, and son Gregory from Montreal were at his side. Predeceased by his parents and brother Bill. He is survived by daughters, Vicki in Glasgow, Scotland, and Cynthia (Aidan) in London, England, and son Gregory (Rachel) and three grandsons, Nicholas, James and Cameron of Montreal, and nieces and nephews. Gordon worked 36 years for Imperial Oil Ltd. of which 26 were with the Montreal Pipe Line. After retirement from Imperial he then worked for the Montreal Board of Trade for 6 years as manager of sales. He had two passions in his life. Receiving his Distinguished Flying Medal from King George VI June 14, 1944 at Leeming Air Force Base in Yorkshire England. Gord was also an avid golfer from an early age of 17 in Montreal, playing with his Dad and brother. He took much pleasure in playing the British and Scottish links courses of which St. Andrews was one. Gord won many tournaments through the years in and around Montreal, and South Carolina. In 1990 we decided to move to Lotus land from Montreal to escape the winters and start a new chapter in our lives. Gordon's last 20 years were enjoyed in the lower mainland and throughout B.C. He will be missed, always loved and not forgotten. There will be a Memorial Service and luncheon on the 27th of March, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Legacy Sports Centre, Exhibition Park, Abbotsford.
