Dr. A. Gordon Gibson suddenly but peacefully passed away at home on Saturday January 22, 2011. He was a strong, vital 85 year old who was always active and busy, right to the end.
He was born in Oyen, Alberta, studied medicine at the University of Alberta and started his first practice in Eckville, Alberta. He moved to Abbotsford in 1965 where he practiced at the McCallum Tower and MSA Hospital until he semi-retired at age 65. He continued to remain active in the medical community performing surgical assists until the remarkable age of 84. He is described as an extraordinary gentleman, kind and loving Father, best Grandpa, caring Brother and Dear Friend.
Gordon was predeceased by his devoted wife Edna, parents Mary and Alfred Gibson, and sister Beth Gibson. He is survived by his adoring children David & Sharlene Gibson, Jayne Gibson, Norma & Ken Smiley, grandchildren Spencer Gibson, Maureen Smiley, Graham Smiley fiancée Heather Picketts, loving sister Ann & George Schedler.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Cascade Community Church (Salvation Army) at 35190 Delair Rd. in Abbotsford B.C. on Monday February 7, 2011 at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow at the same location. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.
