It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and brother. Gord died peacefully with his wife, son and daughter by his side at Comox Valley Regional Hospital in Courtenay, BC. Gord was born, raised and lived many years in Mission, BC, before moving to White Rock, and then to Vancouver Island in 2013. He was an auto mechanic, like his father, from a young age. Driving down the road, he would often point at an older vehicle and tell you the make, model and age of it. He never lost his passion for cars, racing, and all things mechanical. In his middle years, Gord had a second career as a builder of hand-crafted log homes, many of which shipped to Japan, Korea and Scotland. Gord was an avid reader, fisherman and hunter. He loved to travel and explore, and spent many a day walking along creeks looking for trout and watching the bird life. Gord also loved his music: blues, rock and, in particular, the music of Roger Waters. A little know fact about Gord, was his
appreciation for Winnie the Pooh. One of his favourite quotes was: "If there ever comes a day when we can't be together, keep me in your heart. I'll stay there forever". Since moving to Fanny Bay, a new member was added to the family. He and his faithful pup, Tazo, spent many hours sitting together, and the stories he told her! Gord was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He loved deeply and was very loyal to and protective of his family and friends. We are all going to miss him greatly! Gord is survived by his loving wife Ellen, his son Lance Hill, his daughter Laurie (Guy) Chervenka, granddaughters Heather (Arturo) Dominguez and Kristi Chervenka, great-granddaughter Elena Rose Dominguez, brother Robert (Lynn) Hill, sister Lois (Ed) Gaglardi, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Edward (Ted) and Beulah Hill, brother Colin Hill, sister Frances Ellen Sykes, her husband Terry Sykes and their children Sherry and Danny. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses who provided exceptional care to Gord, with great compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully appreciated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 7th, from 2 until 5 pm, at the "The Best Western Mission City Lodge", 32281 Lougheed Hwy., Mission, in the "Mountain Room".
