DYCK, Gertrude

Gertrude Dyck was born in Dunelm, SK on April 2, 1934 to Henry and Olga Dyck. She passed away on October 17, 2009 at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents Olga in 1948 and Henry in 1993.

She is survived by her two brothers, Ernest (Mary) Dyck of Innisfail, AB; Henry Dyck of Calgary, AB and two sisters, Anne (Abe) Hiebert of Abbotsford, BC; Helena (Ron) Swanson of Red Deer, AB; step-mother Virginia Dyck of Swift Current, SK, plus numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves a fellow missionary friend, Pat Schmidt of Abbotsford, BC and a host of friends around the world.

Gertrude received her primary education in a rural school, high school in Swift Current, SK and Prairie High School, Three Hills, AB. She returned to Prairie Bible College for her Bible studies and then to Calgary General Hospital for nurses training in preparation for missionary service.

She went to United Arab Emirates in 1962 with The Evangelical Alliance Mission and served there in hospital ministry until 2000. Following that she continued on in UAE where she was involved in various activities.

She returned to Abbotsford, BC to retire from active ministry in 2005 where she lived until her passing.

Funeral services will be held at Clearbrook Mennonite Brethren Church at 2719 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford, BC on October 23rd at 10:30 a.m.
