George Hideshi Oshiro

June 29, 1923 ~ January 3, 2017

Those we love don't go away ~ They walk beside us every day.

George passed peacefully into the light on January 3, 2017 to join his wife Marion, parents, brother Roy and many friends. George was born in Raymond, Alberta, the second of three sons born to Kamisuke and Masako Oshiro. The family moved to Vancouver when the boys were young. Life in the city was exciting for young George and the beauty of the surrounding ocean and mountains created a life-long love of nature and coastal BC in George. A sports enthusiast, George enjoyed playing sports on the school teams, especially baseball and football. In later life, George took up golf and jogging. George had a natural ability in the academic field and was an honour roll student. Later in life a friend suggested that George make use of his gift in mathematics and go into engineering. George did and became an engineering technologist. George's work led him to many different places and it was in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan that he met and fell in love with Marion Shedden. George was quiet, steady and solid. He gave everyone a fair shake. If he gave you his word, he didn't waver. Marion was feisty, friendly and family oriented. Their marriage was a testament to true love, as an interracial marriage in those days was not easily accepted. George and Marion forged ahead and had four daughters, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary before Marion passed a year ago. George spent the last year of his life surrounded by the love of his family, two little dogs, the wonderful warm staff at Carrington and Deroche floor at Trim. George enjoyed watching countless episodes of Mash, especially in the company of his grandson, Craig. George also loved listening to Frank Sinatra and the music of his era right up until the end. George is survived by his best friend and brother, Aki. He will be deeply missed by his daughters, Ramona, Kim, Paula (Doug), Pam (Rob), grandchildren, Kara (Alex), Nick, Craig, Emily (Phil), Chloe (Kevin), Shayleen, Janna, Matthew and his great grandchildren, Rayfe, Kaiya and Boaz, as well as his loving nieces and nephews. In them George will live on. A private celebration of life was held on January 7, 2017. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.bakerviewcrematorium.com
