George MAYO

August 27, 2004

George Mayo passed away peacefully on Friday, August 27, 2004 at Mission Memorial Hospital.

George fought a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer with the same quiet determination, grace and dignity with which he lived his life. We will forever miss his passion for life and love of family.

He was born November 11, 1927 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and grew up in the small community of Woodside. His family later relocated to BC in 1945 and put down new roots. He met and married his dear wife Lydia, joined the Monarch Lumber Company and moved to Saskatchewan. They later moved back to BC and eventually settled in Mission. By the 1970s he had raised his own family and became interested in genealogy. He researched and wrote several books on family histories. George’s parents were direct descendants of the Mayo family roots from Burin, Newfoundland that go back in time to the 1800s.

George is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lydia, and four children, Sandra, Brenda, Noel and Gordon and their families.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 3, 2004 at 1:00 pm at Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home, 7386 Horne Street, Mission, BC.
