KOKOSZKA

George Mike

It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we announce the passing of our Father and Grandfather (Papa), George Mike Kokoszka. Dad passed away peacefully on April 13th at the Vernon Jubliee Hospital, Vernon, BC. He is survived by his four children; Karen (Dean) Lowry, Kerry (Sandra) Kokoszka, Kathryn (Claude) Savoie and Georgina (Jan) Holdt, eleven grandchildren, two great granddaughters and numerous extended family members. George was born in Mission, BC on September 26th, 1932 to Adam and Anna Kokoszka. He was the third born of nine children. At an early age George became involved in logging, and working for the family farm. On June 4th, 1955, he married his sweetheart, Helen (Honey) Margaret Taylor. He spent most of his life in the logging industry and had his own company - Rainbow Mountain Logging, which was up in Adams Lake and then Toba Timber Logging, up on Toba Inlet along the BC coast. After retiring George and Honey moved up to the Cariboo and lived at Lac La Hache, BC for a few years and then moved to the 108 Mile Ranch, BC. Besides logging, George loved to hunt and fish. Fishing was one of his favorite past times, fishing all summer and ice fishing all winter. When his wife (Mom) passed away in 1999, he continued to live at the 108. He was a great gardener, made freezer jams, canned peaches, smoked trout, and baked his own bread. As well he will be remembered for his great talent in carving various characters out of wood, making lamps from pieces of wood and many other creations. Papa will be fondly remembered playing "You Are My Sunshine" on his harmonica by his grandchildren during our summers at Lac La Hache. Apart from being a tough logger, Dad was quite a softie, writing poetry for friends and family members for special occasions. You are dearly loved and forever in our hearts Dad.....you will be missed. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday, May 22nd, 2016 at 1:00 at the Hatzic Prairie Hall. One of Dad's wishes was to ask those that have one (or more) of his carvings to bring it (them) along to the gathering to have them all in one place. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to a charity of your choice.
