George Kamps, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2014 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was a man of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, confident of his salvation. He will be lovingly remembered by Linda, his wife of four years, daughter Elizabeth (Doug) Hillson, son Richard, son Ron (Carla), daughter (Annette) Giesbrecht as well as grandchildren, Sarah (Nu), Susan (Dave), Holly, Jamie, Carly, Kristen, Adam and Ashley. His eight great grandchildren are Lesina, Julia, Mekaia, Sammy, Matalena, Mercy, Logan and Tomasi. He was predeceased by his first wife Annie, his brother Hank in Holland, sister Anna in Holland and sister Bette in Ontario. Surviving are his brother, Albert in Ontario, sister, Lucille in Ontario and Geertje in Holland. George emigrated to Canada in 1949 at the age of 19. He married Annie Swaan in 1953. Known as a strong, hard worker, George found employment in a variety of industries such as logging and mill work before going into trucking which he did for many years. He loved listening to gospel music and entertained many with his harmonica playing. In his retirement years he was active in his church and was much appreciated for his tireless visitation of the sick and elderly. George spent several winters at Sky Valley, California, where he enjoyed the sun and fellowship with other Christian snowbirds. A memorial service will be held at New Testament Baptist Church located at 5525 Gladwin Road, in Abbotsford on Thursday, May 1 at 2:00 pm. The family wishes to thank the fine staff at the palliative care unit of the Abbotsford Regional Hospital for the care given to George the past three weeks.
