AKINS; Frances Lillian (nee Smith). August 3, 1944 ~ June 15, 2014. Frances Akins passed away peacefully on June 15, 2014 at ARHCC with her husband and daughters by her side. Her passing was the culmination of a valiant five year battle with cancer. Fran was born in Winnipeg to Harry and Rose Smith, but moved at an early age to BC, spending most of her youth in Bradner, then moving with her family to Abbotsford in 1958, where she resided until her death. A strong advocate for the protection of wildlife and the conservation of their habitats, Fran enjoyed long walks on nature trails. Fran is survived by her husband Wayne, daughters Andrea Middleton (Jamie) and Heather Jalbout (Talid), sister Rosemary Bingham (Paul), and her grandchildren Jordyn, Charlotte, Carter, Elan and Théo. In accordance with Fran's wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Nature Conservancy of Canada or the Canadian Wildlife Federation.
