BLAIR, Ferne Isabel

Miss Ferne Isabel Blair was born on November 25, 1920 in Kindersley, SK. The family moved to the family farm at Duntroon, ON in 1924, where Ferne grew up and lived until entering Nurses Training at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, ON, graduating in 1942. Then followed three years at Toronto Bible College, graduating in 1947. From 1949 - 1951 Ferne served in China with the China Inland Mission (now Overseas Missionary Fellowship/OMF). After a few months in Hong Kong in 1952, Ferne was asked to go to Malaysia, where she served the Lord in medical and evangelistic ministry until 1985. The first seven years of "retirement" saw her in an active ministry with International Students at the University of Guelph. In 1992 Ferne moved to Abbotsford and continued to serve in a variety of ways with both Chinese and English churches. Ferne passed away peacefully into the presence of the Lord she so loved and served, the evening of April 3, 2010 at Abbotsford Regional Hospital. A memorial service will be held in Central Heights Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 22. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to OMF International, 5155 Spectrum Way, Building 21, Mississauga, ON L4W 5A1 or to Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, 64 Prince Andrew Place, Toronto, ON M3C 2H4. "To be with Christ is far better."
