PALMER; Eva

1918 ~ 2016

Eva Palmer passed on August 15, 2016. She died peacefully following a brief illness, surrounded by her loyal, loving husband of 69 years, John Palmer, family, friends, and the caring staff and volunteers of Menno Home in Abbotsford. Eva was the last surviving sibling of the St. John’s, a large, loving farm family from Maxville, Ontario. She grew up in a small rural community, but she didn’t stay there long. She lived in Montreal, Southern California, and for the last 30 years in Abbotsford, BC. Eva and John loved life and social gatherings. For decades, they travelled with friends, danced, and played cards. Eva was the consummate card player. She played bridge weekly and only stopped playing a few years ago. Rarely did a day pass without John and Eva playing cards together accompanied by banter and laughs. Eva’s wit, intelligence and independence were evident throughout her life. She was a proud, strong, capable woman who was deeply loved by family, friends and neighbors. Wherever she lived, Eva quickly attracted numerous friends. The focus of much of Eva’s life was caring for, prodding, supporting, and loving her husband, John. They were life-partners and both shared a deep commitment to each other and their religious faith. Attending church regularly and offering nightly prayers, Eva and John’s Catholic faith was core to their lives. A Funeral Mass for Eva will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 33333 Mayfair Avenue, Abbotsford, BC, followed by a reception in the Church Hall. The family is especially grateful for the extraordinary support provided by Bruce St. John and Ron and Monica Hopfner during the last six months of Eva’s life.
