May 11, 1935 - May 10, 2021
Born in Neudorf, Saskatchewan, May 11, 1935. It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Ervin Clarence Schmidt of Kelowna, BC, gone to be with his Lord and Saviour on May 10, 2021.
Erv was always keeping busy with charities and organizations he believed in, starting with Boy Scouts, Youth for Christ, and Christian Service Brigade. He became a Good Sam of the Ogopogo Chapter, serving as Chaplain. He was a member of the Kelowna Lions, in whom he took great pride and he also served as Chaplain.
In addition, he gave time to the Salvation Army, going out, year after year collecting with the kettles. He was very proud of his service in the Navy, and of men who had served, and was a member of the Kelowna Navy Veterans Association of Canada, again serving as Chaplain.
He had a strong love of music. He followed in his father's footsteps and played his harmonica every chance he had. An accomplished player, he played in a band that toured locally until COVID-19 shut them down.
Erv is predeceased by his brother Edwin Daniel, mother Louisa, and father Gottfried. He leaves behind sisters Ricki and Helen and their families; his children David (Laurie), Carol, and Daniel (Lori); grandson David (Kathryn); step-grandchildren Robert (Doris), Patricia (Kenneth), Michael (Laurie), Andrea (Cole) and Zachary; one great-granddaughter Ruby Anne; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
He will be missed by his wife Debbie and her sons Laurie (Sue) and Rod, and daughter Deanna (Randy); step-grandchildren Michelle (Troy), Kathryn, Lindsay, Kala and Leasa; and a dozen step-great-grandchildren they shared together.
Erv's music and poetry inspire us and give fond memories.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Salvation Army. Dad would have liked that.
