Erna (nee Kornelson) DOERKSEN

December 1, 2005

Jan. 17, 1926 — Dec. 1, 2005

Erna was a quiet, gentle soul who left her long-suffering body to go to her eternal home early Wednesday morning. She was the beautiful and loving wife to John Doerksen with whom she shared 58 years. Her commitment and devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ overflowed to her husband, children, grandchildren and all who knew her. She left footprints for us to follow, footprints of kindness, prayfulness, thriftiness, tenderness and courage. She was born in Waldheim, Sask. And moved to the Fraser Valley as a youngster. After attending elementary school in Abbotsford, she worked on her mother’s farm, picked berries, hops and did day work. She was always a hard worker. In 1947 she married John and together they had 5 children: Dennis of Calgary, Donna of Burnaby, David of Mexico, Douglas of Mexico and Edmonton and Deborah of Prince George, who made her a grandmother to 15 children and the great grandmother to 7 young ones. Having lived in Clearbrook, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Edmonton, they retired in Abbotsford in 1989. After marriage she had many job experiences including being the first female driver for Duecks car dealership, running a small nursing home, working as a housewife, secretary, homecare worker, recreation leader at a retirement home and glassblower.

Her sisters Annie and Minnie grieve her loss along with her many relatives, in-laws and family.

Many thanks to so many who supported, ministered and cared for Erna and her husband in the last months of her life. A word of gratitude to the homecare workers who allowed Erna a special month at home with her family.

Donations in lieu of flowers would be appreciated to MCC or Young Life. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 from 7:30 — 9:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. from Maclure Rd. Cemetery followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am from Bakerview MB Church.
