Erna DOERKSEN

Erna late of Abbotsford, BC passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Sept. 4, 2004. She was born on May 29, 1917 in Russia the fifth of nine children. In 1926 when she was 9, the family immigrated to Canada. They settled first in Manitoba, then in 1929 moved to Gem, Alberta. She received Jesus Christ as her personal savior at age 14 and was baptized a few years later. On Oct. 22, 1938 Erna married John Doerksen. Three children were born to them there. In 1945 they moved to Abbotsford BC, to a dairy farm in Sumas Prairie. Two more children were born during this time. They attended the Arnold MB Church. In 1966 they sold the dairy farm and moved to a smaller farm where they had raspberries and some cattle. During the time they attended South Abbotsford MB Church. In 1984 after 451/2 years of marriage her husband John passed away and she moved to a condo in Evergreen Village. She joined the Clearbrook MB Church where she was a member until her death. Ema’s last two years were spent at Hallmark Assisted Living. Her later years were spent knitting and crocheting for her family and Relief Organizations. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed listening to her many tapes. She was predeceased by 2 infant grandchildren, her husband John and all her siblings except for one sister Margaret Wiens. She is survived by all her children Ben (Lois) Doerksen, Marie Doerksen, Martha (Jim) Harder, Betty (Derek) Nesbitt, Bill (Robyn) Doerksen. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, their spouses and 14 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 2:00 pm at Clearbrook MB Church.
