January 28, 1927 - July 15, 2018
With much sadness the family of Elsie Kucher announces her passing at Abbotsford Regional Hospital on Sunday, July 15th, 2018. She is predeceased by her husband, Leon, and six siblings: Cornelius, Peter, Henry, and Frank Penner, Helen Neumann, and Kay Thiessen.

Elsie was born January 28, 1927 to Heinrich and Katharina (Martens) Penner in Blumenort, Saskatchewan, the youngest of eight children. She was always proud to remind her siblings of the fact that she was the only one of them to have actually been born in Canada. She is mourned by her brother Jake, and 31 nieces and nephews, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Elsie grew up in the village of Blumenort. In 1942 the family moved to Yarrow, BC. where she attended the Yarrow Bible School and helped her parents on their berry farm. After a few years she left to go to Vancouver for work. There she took a course for Medical Office Receptionist, which led to thirty-one years serving in medical offices in both Vancouver and Edmonton.

On March 20th, 1965 she married Leon Kucher. After three years they moved to Edmonton where they remained for twenty years. They retired to Abbotsford in 1988 where, five years later, Leon died.

Elsie will be remembered for her enthusiasm for life, her irrepressible sense of humour, and the warmth of heart she always extended to family and friends. Growing up in an immigrant family during the Great Depression, she always knew that a good life was not going to be handed to her on a platter. Life was going to be what she made it. With courage, zest, hard work and faith, Elsie created a bountiful life, and shared it unstintingly with others. She is deeply missed.

A Memorial Service honouring her life will be announced at a later date.
