Elsie Friesen nee Heinrichs, born July 3, 1929, in Halbstadt, Manitoba, died peacefully with family at her home in Abbotsford on August 20, 2022.
Elsie was raised in Manitoba, where she met and married Diedrich Friesen in Nov 1947. They started their family in Gnadenfeld, moving first to Portage la Prairie and later to Abbotsford, BC, in 1967.
Mom was proud of her early work life in Winnipeg at the "big" Eaton's store earning enough money to buy her wedding bedroom furniture. When the family moved to Abbotsford, she worked at the Park Hotel for ten years. She then graded eggs at several different grading stations in the Abbotsford area. Over many years she volunteered her time to the Huntingdon Bingo Assoc., the local Diabetes group and Fraser Valley Muscular Dystrophy Association.
If asked, her children would say her most appreciated accomplishment was raising nine children with love, patience and kindness. She continued with the same as she supported all her grand, great and great-great grandchildren. We are all so proud to have called you our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Elsie Friesen was predeceased by her husband Diedrich Friesen, children Janie Friesen, Donald Friesen, Peggy Friesen, Arnold Friesen and son-in-law Glen Gordon.
Left behind to cherish her memory are children Fran Gordon, Sharon (Garry) Mutter, Norma Bavalis, Elmer Friesen, Edith (Larry) Thoreson.
Grandchildren Terry Isaryk, David Isaryk, Michelle Bavalis, Amanda Mckeigan, Lisa St. Andrassy, Julie Bavalis, Chas Friesen, Wade Thoreson, Maria Blake and Janie Thoreson.
Great grandchildren Nicole, Courtney, Elijah, Nathan, Matthew, Tegan, Emma, Ava, Seth, Mona, Violet, Hazel, Michael, Tyler, Zakk and Jakob. Great great granddaughter Vanessa.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 24, at 2:30 pm at Henderson's Funeral Home. For information, call 604-854-5534
Food was Mom's love language if you went to her home you would be fed. Monthly family suppers were legendary to family and friends alike. One of her favourite charities was the Food Bank. Donations will be gratefully accepted to the Abbotsford Food Bank.
