August 7, 1930 - June 5, 2020
Passed away peacefully at the age of 89 in Tabor Home, Abbotsford, BC. Mom was the second eldest of seven children born to Guy and Jessie Perry in Consort, Alberta.
In her early teens the family moved to Prince Rupert where her father worked in the shipyards. Following high school Mom moved to Vancouver working as a secretary and met and married Albert Burt.
After the birth of their first daughter in 1950 they moved to Terrace, BC, enjoying the benefits of having many family members nearby. Over the next 15 years Mom held several secretarial jobs as well as partnering with Dad in different entrepreneurial endeavors all the while raising three daughters.
In 1965 the family moved to their new home in Mount Lehman. Mom always had time for family and made the most of every situation. She could rustle up a fantastic meal for fifteen on very short notice and will always be remembered for her apple pies.
Being an avid gardener, canning and helping with the farm, Mom also enjoyed her bowling and lots of walking. She was a very active member of the Jubilee Community Club, forming many lasting friends and neighbors over the years.
A very kind and loving grandmother, Mom took quite an interest in her grandchildren's lives and was very proud of them all. After many years working for Abbotsford School District she retired early to enjoy travelling with Dad. They travelled to the Yukon, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Cuba, and Great Britain. Their favorite place seemed to be the Cook Islands but they also headed to Reno at the drop of a hat. Mom enjoyed meeting people, exploring new places, taking extensive notes of all their travels. They travelled across Canada before Dad passed away in 1997 after 48 years of marriage.
Mom moved to Abbotsford in 2002 where she would pursue her new passion of golf. She liked to do 18 holes, several times a week and ... no cart involved. She became quite obsessed with hockey, an interest she would share with her grandsons for years; her favorite team being the Canucks. Her keen interest in seeing new places and further travels took her to Hawaii, Mexico, the US and China. Also, being very interested in her family's history, she was able to connect with her roots, in New Zealand.
Predeceased by her husband Al Burt, parents, Guy and Jessie Perry, siblings Robert and Jules Perry, Joyce Dye, Norma Mitzimberg and Janet Broman. She is survived by her brother Arthur (Donna) Perry of Sechelt, and her daughters Lorraine Fentie, Carol Back, and Vicki Hoffer. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Ryan (Nita) Back, Michael Back, Chris Back, David (Teresa) Fentie, Robin (Kevin) Morin, Spencer (Darcy) Hoffer, Darren (Deanna) Hoffer, Ryan (Nathalie) Anderson and great grandchildren Kieran and Avery Back, Alexandra and Jacob Hoffer and Jessica and Kaitlyn Hoffer.
Mom will be missed dearly and remembered always in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched. Due to Covid, a Celebration of Life will be determined at a later date.
