Elizabeth (Betty) Pankratz

Betty went Home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, less than two months away from her 90th birthday, a week after suffering a stroke. She was predeceased by her parents, her three sisters and two brothers, and in May 2001, her husband Arthur, and son Ron. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter Elaine (Hank) Funk, daughter-in-law Marilyn Pankratz, grandsons Mason (Brenda) Funk, Andrew Funk, Ryan (Tonya) Pankratz, Darren (Rachael) Pankratz, seven great grandchildren, and extended family and friends. Born August 23, 1918, Betty grew up in Langham and then Dalmeny, SK. Her family moved to Yarrow, BC when Betty was 19. She worked in Vancouver, as a cook and maid until she married Arthur Pankratz August 5, 1944 in Yarrow, BC. Church and family life was important to her. While her children were growing up, Betty spent many summers working in the berry fields and then later in the cannery. After owning and working in the South Poplar Store in the late 60's, they moved to Surrey where they took in foster children, and then Betty worked at K-Mart until retirement. They then moved back to Abbotsford and joined the Seven Oaks Alliance Church. Betty will be remembered as always being "prim and proper", dressed well, and walking with good posture. But she will want to be remembered most as one who loved her Lord and her family. The family is very grateful to the staff at Bevan Lodge and Dr. Pauls and nurses at the MSA hospital for the loving care given to Betty. A memorial service/luncheon will be held in the Seven Oaks Alliance Church gym at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 5, 2008. Viewing at Hendersons Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Road, Abbotsford, 9:00 - 10:00 am Saturday, with private burial to follow for family and close friends. Flowers gratefully declined.
